Michael Presented his Portable Lighting strategies to our PPRE membership and professional guests. Everyone agreed that the mini-workshop was extremely valuable. Some of my personal notes and reflections on some of Michael's strategies....

  • Keep the light source as close to the subject as possible to enhance image quality
  • Keeping the portable lights off camera creates more dynamic looking lighting
  • There are a ton of lighting modifyers for Portable Lighting, each piece of equiptment can create a unique lighting effect
  • In post production, consider creating a more concise workflow to improve editing and art creation time

Final thoughts....Invest in a radio slave system. There are several brands available....Radio Popper, Tiny Triggers (Robert Scott Lam), Quantum, Pocket Wizard or even other low cost brands. Most are very reliable.

Michael suggested that to get better with off camera/portable lighting you must shoot a lot and practice, practice,  practice!
